Legacy Burdens Video

Welcome to "Legacy Burdens and Heirlooms of Appalachia: The Impacts of Intergenerational Trauma."

This course is designed for therapists who already have a working knowledge of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model and work in the Appalachian region.

Building upon your existing knowledge of the IFS model, we will delve into the concept of legacy burdens—the intense beliefs and/ or emotions passed down through generations—and legacy heirlooms, the positive inheritances, values, or aptitudes from families or culture.

Together, we will learn to identify legacy and cultural burdens, navigate the challenges they present in the therapeutic relationship, and practice essential clinical skills of unblending and you-turns.
